About Commonwealth Systems

Who we are

Commonwealth Systems was founded in 2016, in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Its founder, a New Zealander, whose partner, a Canadian, met while in the United Kingdom. After a move to Canada, having met in and being from Commonwealth nations, "Commonwealth Systems" felt apt.

Guiding principles

Richard, our founder, began his I.T. career in New Zealand, leaving university in the late 1990's to join Earthlight, an internet startup. Earthlight's leadership team taught that value was to be found in a diverse group of personalities, kindness and honesty in the workplace, and trusting your people to deliver. Earthlight went on to be acquired by (the then) Distinctive Business Systems. DBS was already providing in the '90's what today would be called "Software as a Service" (SaaS) in the Cloud, (before it was even called "the Cloud"). DBS ran IBM "big iron" and promoted "old-school" I.T. practices: loyal service, planning, partnership, and a no-bull approach to ensuring up-time for our customers.

Several years later, Richard moved to the U.K. and was fortunate to work with Hewlett Packard Enterprise for some eight years, then Quantum Corp. for a further four years. HPE and Quantum opened opportunities to work with clients in over twenty countries, spanning the entire gamut from small businesses to "Fortune 500" household names.

We look forward to bringing this breadth of experience to bear while helping your organisation meet the challenges it faces.
